LCSI's comment on situation in Ivory Coast
During more than four months of post-electoral crisis in Ivory Coast, humanitarian agencies reports that more than 1 million civilians fled their homes and untold numbers were killed in the power struggle between the two rivals.
President Alassane Ouattara called on all fighters to put down their arms.
The LCSI’s CEO Mr Rene C Mugenzi said: ‘’ In aftermath of any bloody conflict in any country which has divided communities, their political leader's lack OR full of innovative reconciliation initiatives can make a big different between creating a harmonious and reconciled society sustained by an everlasting peace AND creating of a divided society with high potentiality of re-entering into other bloody conflicts and continuous population sufferings’’
LCSI welcomes Ouattara’s announcement of his intention to establish a truth and reconciliation commission, but cautioned that that move should be part of a wider reconciliation plan and actions which should involve representatives of all populations at all levels and from diverse areas and sectors.
